Blog-Dr. Jantz observations on HBO "Thin" Documentary

drgreggjantz | 10 November, 2006 20:41

After watching the pre-screening of the HBO documentary Thin directed by Lauren Greenfield, I feel it is important to share my thoughts regarding this documentary. My comments are regarding the content of the film, not necessarily about Renfrew Center.

After watching the pre-screening I felt that that many viewers will have a sense of hopelessness regarding the ability to have victory over an eating disorder. The film gave the sense that people do not recover from an eating disorder. Before I cover that subject I would like to share some other observations.

Complexion Problems

Anonymous Post-Question: I had an ED for a long time and struggle with cystic acne. Topical treatments don't work. I'm told its hormonal and due to high progesterone levels the middle to the end of my menstrual cycle (which is normal.) My understanding based on my own research is that it could be a vitamin A or B vitamin deficiencies. Can you shed some light on the topic? Thanks!

God's grace

Anonymous Post-I had an ED for 16 years. By God's grace (his direction), He led me through a program similar to yours by connecting me with people who could help me deal with and heal from my illness. They included: Christian counselor, nutritionist, chiropractor, massage therapist, 12 step program etc. God also led me through a self education process on topics such as addiction, abuse, sexual abuse, codependency, family dynamcis, and faith. It's been a long tiring journey. I wish I had known about your facility. Exposure and access to that kind of help all under one roof would have been such a blessing!
