Causes of Depression

drgreggjantz | 23 February, 2007 05:40

These two podcasts discuss the Causes of Depression. As I speak on the Causes of Depression I share insights on steps you can take to overcome depression. We have a strong emphasis on the Whole-Person treatment of depression. What these means is that we do not believe medication is the only answer to depression. In fact, if the causes of depression are dealt with, there normally is no need for medication.

In these podcasts I discuss how lack of exercise, stress, relationship issues, improper nutrition, toxins in your body, and other factors can cause depression. Throughout these podcasts we share the message of hope.

U.S. Fashion Industry Following International Trend

drgreggjantz | 22 January, 2007 17:57

I was happy to read that the U.S. Fashion industry is following the lead of Spain and Italy in creating standards for models. There is a quote in the following article that is alarming: In 1965, the average model weighed 8 percent less than the average woman. Now she weighs 23 percent less, according to the National Eating Disorders Association." Hopefully as the standards change for models, this statistic well turn the other way. What is your opinion on this subject of guidelines within the fashion industry? Should the fashion industry govern itself or should their be intervention by other parties? How much is the responsibility on the models themselves to set a standard for the sake of their own health? Do these models influence women to be more thin? (More)

Fashion industry issues model guidelines

drgreggjantz | 12 January, 2007 15:14

I am happy to see that the fashion industry has decided to issue guidelines to designers, aimed at promoting healthier behavior among its models. The guidelines, which fall short of modeling restrictions announced in recent months by fashion show organizers in Madrid and Milan, were introduced at a meeting of the Council of Fashion Designers of America in Manhattan.

Considering the recent tragic deaths of some models, these guidelines are not soon enough, but it is a start in the right direction.

Holidays, Families, New Years and Depression

drgreggjantz | 05 January, 2007 13:11

I was recently interviewed by KOMO-TV in Seattle regarding the subject of the holiday season and how at times it can bring additional stress because of the busyness of the season, the potential for conflicts with family members, or maybe worried about the results of unhealthy eating. These issues along with the winter weather can cause individuals to get depressed.

Kate Winslet Slams 'Ultra-Thin' Glamorization

drgreggjantz | 13 December, 2006 20:09

I read an article that had some interesting statements by Hollywood star Kate Winslet.

She stated that finds the glamorization of ultra-thin "size zero" models and actresses "unbelievably disturbing" and says she keeps magazines featuring such women away from her 6-year-old daughter.

The 31-year-old Winslet, who burst on the movie scene in "Titanic" and stars in the current romantic comedy "The Holiday," said it was "unbelievably disturbing what's going on at the moment" with the popularity of the ultra-thin.
